  1. The best short stories

    COP $ 28.000
Guy de Maupassant was a master of the short story. This collection reflects his remarkable diversity, with stories that vary in theme and tone, and range from tragedy and satire to comedy and farce. With a simplicity of style that masks complex philosophy, Maupassant can illuminate an entire cede of values by means of a few telling details. He exposes the brutality of war and the hypocrisy it spawns, and depicts the petty limitations, the dissimulations and the vanities inherent at different levels of society. His stories are linked by a trenchant irony and by a preoccupation with the frailty of human nature and the futility of so many lives. Nota: el contenido de este libro se encuentra en inglés. 2. The best short stories

This is a fascinating selection of Kipling\'s most famous short stories, bringing together the very best of his work. Lifes Handicap reflects his experiences of India, and contains two horror stories which permeate the collection with an air of haunted destinies. Delusions and obsessions, past lives and the slums of London in 1890 are the fascinatingly diverse topics featured in Many inventions. While Traffics and Discoveries contains three tales in which the subject matter ranges from unexplained mystery and the super natural to an other-worldly house full of elusive but charming children. The Maltese cat is Kipling\'s well-loved story about a polo pony, These stories remind us once again that Kipling is an undisputed master of story-telling. 4. Twenty years after

    COP $ 28.000
A year after the publication of The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas produced a sequel worthy in every respect of the original. In Twenty years After the much beloved D\'Artaganan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis reunite to fight the forces of evil. In the original novel they defeated Milady, a formidable foe: now they need to face her vengeful son Mordaunt, as well as countering the machinations of the sinister Cardinal Mazarin. Their adventures also take them to England, where Cromwell is about to topple Charles I. Meanwhile, they must overcome the obstacles which the passing of time has placed between them. Rediscovering strength in unity, they fight for Queen and country. The Musketeer novels were a huge success in Dumas\' own lifetime, and have lost none of their original appeal. Translated into many languages and adapted for cinema and television, they have helped to make Dumas arguably the most successful exporter of French culture to the wider world. This tormented and disfigured creature has made his home in the labyrinthine cellars of this opulent building where he can indulge in his great passion for music, which is a substitute for the love and emotion denied him because of his ghastly appearance. It is in the Opera House that he encounters Christine Daae whom he trains in secret to become a great singer. Erik\'s passionate obsession with a beautiful woman beyond his reach is doomed and leads to the dramatic tragic finale. Gaston Leroux\'s novel is a marvellous blend of detective story, romance and spine-tingling terror which has fascinated readers ever since the work was first published.Erik, the Phantom of the Paris Opera House, is one of the great icons of horror literature. The wolf has always been a creature of legend and romance, while kings, sorcerers and outlaws have been proud to be called by the name of the wolf, it\'s no wonder, then, that tales of transformation between man and wolf are so powerful and persistent. This original collection offers some of the greatest, rarest and most unusual werewolf stories ever. From the forests of Transylvania to the ordered lawns of an English country estate, here are all the classic aspects of the tale. You will encounter shadows that lope under the moon, chilling howls, family curses, crimson feasts, the desperate chase and the deathly duel. But you will also find the werewolf in less expected guises - as an adversary for Sherlock Holmes, as a myth of the Wild West, and as a figure restored to its origins in folk and fairy tales. With an informative introduction by Mark Valentine that follows the traces of the werewolf in literature, and its links to Dracula, Jekyll Hyde, and The Hound of the Baskervilles, this superb collection will make you fear the full moon. You will encounter shadows that lope under the moon, chilling howls, family curses, crimson feasts, the desperate chase and the deathly duel. 10. Epigrams of Oscar Wilde

    COP $ 48.000
There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about, said the author more than a hundred years ago. But this remark seems perhaps even more relevant to our present world where so many seek publicity at any cost. Wilde\'s well-turned phrases and spontaneous insults still cause much amusement and admiration. Most of us miss the opportunities for bon most, finding them long after the moments have passed, but the author seems never to have been short of suitable words - flattering, witty and on occasions savagely cruel. Many of the quotes in this book are taken from Wilde\'s plays, novels and essays which were also packed with witticisms amounting to an outrageous philosophy. Wilde\'s extravagance and unconventional behaviour earned him loyal friends but also bitter enemies and in 1895 after a series of unfortunate events and court cases he was gaoled for two years with hard labor for indecent behaviour. Though from prison ca me a few last brilliant works, Wilde was never to recover his health or standing in society. He died in Paris bankrupt, broken and alone. He is buried at Cimetière du Pere Lachaise - one of Paris\'s finest cemeteries - where today many pilgrims from all parts of the world come to pay their respects and leave tokens in recognition of his genius.
