A Tale of Two Cities was written by English author Charles Dickens (1812-1870) in 1859,and published in 31 weekly instalments in the literary periodical All the Year Round that same year.The book stands out not only for being one of Dickens\' most accomplished and famous works,but also because it was one of the few historical fiction novels he ever wrote. 

The French Revolution was already a not so distant memory by the novel\'s publication,but rhe consequences and new world order that carne with it was still deeply ingrained in Dickens\' time. 

As the majority of the author\'s work the novel transcended literary form and has been adapted to various media forms from silent films to television series and radio serials proving to many generations the appeal of Dickens and his stories. 

Moby Dick;the Whale is the work of American writer and poet,Herman Melville (1819-1891).Best known simply as Moby Dick, the novel narrates the story of Ahab,Captain of the whaler Pequod and his quest to kill rhe great white whale that gives the novel its name,as revenge for sinking his previous vessel and losing one of his legs. 

Melville relied on his experiences at sea,to craft a very complex and thorough narrative about whaling and me hardships of being a sailor,especially one on the hunt for the greatest creatures the oceans have ever seen.He also delved deeply into historical texts,scientific papers and personal interviews,in order to build and maintain the realness of his story,and also to bring the written page closer and closer to existence. 

Moby Dick was not a commercial success during the author\'s lifetime,as critics in England where the novel was first published-were less rhan welcoming to the literary devices ofMelville and his tale of revenge.

The new century brought a renewed interest in undiscovered and rerlooked American literature,especially amongst academic circles

To the Lighthouse is me fifth novel by English modernist writer Virginia Woolf(1882-1941).Published in 1927,the novel narrates the visits of the Ramsay family ro the Isle of Skye in Scodand between 1910 and 1920. 

1he story follows the tradition of modernist Iiterarure,focusing on philosophical introspection and stream of consciousness narration over plot,Like her contemporaries James Joyce and Mareel Proust,Virginia Woolf\'s goal was to make an aecurate depietion of the eomplexity of human relationships and the emotional spaces people inhabit through life. 

To the Lighthouse adheres to this literary teehnique,but still maintains the story of the Ramsays and the events that unfold in their summer home during two days separated by ten years. 1he aetion shifts point of view several times and has very little dialogue,and yet retains the attention of the reader by the emotional threads of its charaeters and rheir thoughts.

Romeo and Juliet (1597) is probably one of the most recognizable and adapted love stories of all time.The tragedy of two star-crossed lovers,both members of warring farnilies and doomed from the start to a forbidden love.

The plot was inspired by an ltalian tale but expanded by Shakespeare with subplots and more characters.The additions and new leve of complexity helped set apart Romeo and Juliet from other contemporary romances,creating an imrnortal story in the process.

El hilo central, las peripecias de Oliver desde sus comienzos en la más absoluta pobreza hasta su ascenso, se entreteje con asuntos tangenciales, que a veces resultan predominantes, pues son esenciales para el propósito del autor: la denuncia social a través de la descripción del Londres de la época, con sus lacras sociales y morales... En definitiva, "Oliver Twist" es una historia de buenos y malos, donde se mezclan lo jovial, lo sentimental, lo lúgubre y lo trágico, con una eficacia narrativa que hace que todavía hoy en día los lectores continúen identificándose con los personajes, las situaciones y la crítica que plantea el autor
